our journey

This photo was taken on a hot August day in Paramaribo, Suriname at the International Day of Indigenous People festivities. The guy on the left smoking a cigarette has an entire bird on his head. It was pretty shocking. But then even deciding to live in Suriname came as a surprise.

Actually so did getting hit upside the head with an extended crisis.

Natives of Suriname

That's us by the way. We're zoned out in the Trinidad & Tobago airport . But hang on, this is the end - or beginning - of our story. You can read about that right here.

Terra Laggner and Alfred Laggner on the way to Suriname

We're excited, optimistic, in love and, okay, a little tired. We went through some mighty dark nights and learned incredible amounts on our jouney into sunny days. That's what we want to share with you.

That transformation isn't a feel-good-quick scheme, but it's all worth it. In our case, we even chose a grand new adventure with lots of steamy, hot sunny days just because we could!

Terra's story

I wasn't one of those kids with a stable, happy childhood. I know for a fact they exist because both our kids had wonderful years as children. But I went fromchildhood traumas into some heavy duty health and other challenges as an adult.

This, along with lots and lots of training and many years of study in various wellness modalities has turned me into a hands-on expert on healing and wellness.

One of my major challenges was a diagnosis of stage three breast cancer. Treatment took years instead of months. My mother had died of the same disease after a six-year battle when I was 12. All of this led me through the cobwebs and dark nights of fear and anxiety and showed me the pathway to transforming that into bright, sunny days - sans old cobwebs.

After initially recuperating I faced an even bigger challenge. Throughout my cancer journey my husband was a fabulous caretaker and support. This time around we were in the soup together. He a lot more than me.

Lemon-Bird

We call this the lemon bird. We don't know the real name yet, but a couple of them live in our garden here.

Alfred's story

Alfred is an experienced acupuncturist who worked in the health field for many years and was highly respected in the community. Not too long after settling in to a small town, an emotionally disturbed patient accused him of misconduct. The allegations were all over the local media.

Almost exactly 10 months to the day after it all began the case was dismissed as groundless.

Meanwhile we were out of work, we had used up our savings, lost our home and went through bankruptcy. The day after the case closed we started packing.

I had been working with rainforest herbs, and a friend in Suriname invited us to visit her and her country. It was a great opportunity for us both to learn more about rainforest herbs. We decided to keep the herb business going while we took some time off for intensive field study.

We both love to travel and this was a new adventure we didn't want to pass up.

We want to share with you our life in Suriname and support your journey to wellness, comfort, and happiness. That's our story. What's yours?
